Why The Hell I Wrote a Book

Well, cancer happened, and it turned out to be quite a story... one that might help someone navigate their own challenge.

You see, I was young, active, and a 'healthy' 29 year old when I was diagnosed with Stage IV Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2016. After getting totally emotionally sidelined by the diagnosis, I completed six rounds (12 infusions total) of ABVD chemotherapy while exploring all the many ways to care for myself during the fight. When I tumbled out the other side into remission (!), I tried to pick up my life and career where I had left it, but it just wasn't the same. Something was different. Something was missing. It was like my doctor had sent me home with a stick shift, when I only knew how to drive an automatic.

And I thought to myself, this is a story - with insights and perspective - that might be able to help someone else, be it battling cancer, or battling any challenge at all.

Because this was a story about self discovery.

So I wrote it all down, and I am now sharing it, in this place that I've built specifically for anyone facing illness, or challenge, or any struggle at all. Because, the insights that cancer left with me are applicable to anyone who is brave enough to explore and listen to themselves.

My book is titled So That Happened, A Memoir by CC Webster. It is a candid reflection on being a young, fast-paced 29-year old in New York City, getting handed an out-of-the-blue diagnosis and transforming out of the rubble. I'm sure that my observations and perspectives may ring true to anyone who has sat in that chemo chair, or who has shown up to a cocktail party with a fresh buzz cut...

But more than cancer alone, So, That Happened is a story of facing challenge and surviving.

It is a story about the power of the physical body and the emotional self. It is a story about self-discovery. And it is a story about love. Most of all, it is story of hope, with a little bit of humor.
